DESCRIPTION

In an effort to raise the effectiveness of Scrum, the Scrum Alliance has created the Certified Scrum Developer (CSD) program. A Certified Scrum Developer is someone who has demonstrated through a combination of formal training and a technical skills assessment that he or she has a working understanding of Scrum principles and has learned specialized Agile engineering skills. This class is aimed at helping software development professionals and teams be more effective when implementing Scrum and other Agile methodologies. You will learn how to create and maintain high quality systems through industry standard practices such as Test Driven Development, Continuous Integration and common software design patterns. This class was specifically designed to deliver the core Agile Development Practices Learning Objectives of the CSD program and should prepare the participant to successfully pass the Scrum Alliance CSD Candidate Assessment.

In order to earn the CSD certification, the Scrum Alliance requires at least five days of formal training followed by a CSD assessment/evaluation. This class fulfills 21 of the required 35 hours and can be paired with the Certified ScrumMaster class to complete the requirement.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is the focus of this course?

The Certified Scrum Developer® course is aimed at software developers (programmers) who are building software in a Scrum environment. The goal is to expose students to the most important tools and techniques that need to be applied in order to build good software in the iterative and incremental fashion that Scrum requires. These ideas are central to the entire field of Agile software development.

How do I become a Certified Scrum Developer?

To become a Certified Scrum Developer, one must take the following steps:

  • The first step towards CSD® is to understand Scrum.
  • The second step is to attend a two-day CSD® course conducted by a certified trainer.

What are the pre-requisites for the certification?

In order to earn a CSD, we require at least five days of formal training taught by a Scrum Alliance Registered Education Provider (REP) and a Scrum Alliance Authorized Instructor.

There are currently two tracks to achieve CSD certification (detailed below). Once you complete a track, you will receive notification to accept your CSD license, and the CSD certification will be added to your profile. Your certification is valid for two years.

Track 1

  • CSM course (2 days)
  • CSD technical course (must include coding) (3 days)

Track 2

  • Intro to Scrum CSD course (1 day)
  • CSD technical course (must include coding) (3 days)
  • CSD technical elective course (1 day)

During your CSD courses, you must also demonstrate an understanding of Scrum and Agile engineering practices by passing a CSD assessment provided by the REP/instructor. The assessment may be an exam administered by the instructor to test your knowledge, or it may be an active, classroom-based assessment. When a REP/instructor uploads a student’s information into our system, they are recommending the student for certification.
